Sedimentary Rocks
A sedimentary rock is a rock that forms when rocks particles or plants and animals remains get pressed together.
Examples of Sedimentary Rocks
One example of a sedimentary rock is conglomerate. Conglomerate is very earthy and rough. It's color depends on the rock, some can be be brown, tan, salmon, etc. It is made up of tiny pebbles pressed together. Here is a picture of conglomerate.
Another example of a sedimentary rock is sandstone. Sandstone is very rough and thin, and its color is usually a brown-tan color, but sometimes can be salmon or gray. It is made up of sand grains, which have many small holes in between them which lets the sandstone absorb water. Here is a picture of sandstone.
Shale is also a sedimentary rock. Shale splits very easily into flat pieces, and its colors can be black, blue, and more. Many times fossils can be found in shale and are usually white. Shale is very abundant. Here is a picture of shale.
My last example is breccia. Breccia is made up of rock fragments and sharp edges. Breccia can be red, black, white or gray with spots that also range in color. Here is a picture of breccia.
Uses of Sedimentary Rocks.
Sedimentary rocks can be used for many things. Shale can be used in brick making, limestone can be used for glass making and many buildings are made of sandstone.
